The Paddington is Chloe's slouchy leather shoulder bag, launched in 2005 under Phoebe Philo and one of the definitive It bags of the mid-2000s. It is an east-west, soft-bodied bag with rounded handles and a heavy engraved padlock hanging from a leather strap across the front, worn in the crook of the arm or on the shoulder. Its logo-free, hardware-forward look made it a status bag of the era.

A 2005 phenomenon
Phoebe Philo designed the Paddington for Chloé's Spring/Summer 2005 collection. Demand was such that all 8,000 of the first run were spoken for before they reached store shelves.
Its signature is an oversized leather-wrapped padlock weighing close to half a kilogram, a literal nod to a bag's job of safekeeping, hung on slouchy, worn-in leather.
