The Louis Vuitton Alma is the house's structured, dome-shaped top-handle bag: a firm rounded silhouette with a flat base, a short handle and a zip that follows the curve of the top. It traces back to 1934, designed under Gaston-Louis Vuitton and named for the Place de l'Alma in Paris, and it is still made today across Epi leather (the original material), Monogram canvas, Damier and glossy Monogram Vernis. Origin

From the Squire to the Alma

Gaston-Louis Vuitton designed the structured top-handle bag in 1934, first calling it the Squire. It translated the house's trunk-making into a handbag, was renamed more than once over the years, and only formally became the Alma in 1992, after Place de l'Alma in Paris.
