Where it stands
#73
of 536 styles in the LC Index
✦One number for where a bag stands in the whole market.
A logo Céline Vipiana spotted on the Arc de Triomphe in 1971, revived as a clasp by Hedi Slimane in 2018.
Origin
A chain around a monument
The name and clasp trace to the Arc de Triomphe. One afternoon in 1971 the founder, Céline Vipiana, broke down at Place de l'Étoile in Paris and noticed the interlocking chain links circling the monument, each like a pair of joined Cs. That became the Triomphe emblem.
Hedi Slimane revived that archival double-C emblem as the bag's clasp for his debut Celine collection in 2018, so the closure that holds the bag shut is also the house signature.
